Non-life is the second-largest segment after life insurance in the UK insurance industry. The UK non-life insurance segment remains volatile in the presence of increased losses and capital depreciation during the review period. However, during 2010–2011, the UK non-life insurance segment regained stability due to recoveries in both the property and automobile markets, which were made possible through growing construction industry supporting the London Olympics, improving economic conditions and an increase in the level of disposable income on a national level. New construction projects with regards to the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Game and a slow recovery in terms of car penetration rates per thousand people, is expected to drive the non-life insurance segment over the forecast period. Mandatory motor third-party liability insurance is also expected to drive the UK non-life insurance segment. In addition, the segment is also expected to be driven by an increase in risk awareness and a return of consumer confidence.
