Southern Africa pharmaceuticals market: New market research published

According to our Pharmaceutical Risk/Reward Ratings (RRRs), pharmaceutical markets in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will remain more attractive to investors than those in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The GCC countries and the Gulf Levant will continue to have high rewards and low risks for investors.

The only country in Africa as promising as countries in the Middle East is South Africa. The Northern and Southern regions of Africa will gradually gain more interest in the long-term as the Middle East regions mature, whereas countries in West and Central Africa will remain a high risk/low reward proposition. East Africas aggregate attractiveness will drop significantly as a result of unfavourable political and economic conditions in Sudan. Our Pharmaceutical RRRs for Q412 have remained relatively consistent with those in Q312, with the exception of Sudan, which will continue to hold back the East Africa region.

Angola has not changed position in our MEA RRRs for several quarters, maintaining its position at the bottom of the table, in 27th position. With below regional average scores in all indicators except for Country Rewards, Angolas enviable assets in terms of natural resources and relative political stability do little to bolster its poor performance in terms of the pharmaceutical sector. In terms of its nearest neighbours, Angola outperforms Sudan, Zimbabwe and Côte dIvoire but falls far behind regional leader South Africa and Namibia, which it shares a border with.
