This research service provides an in-depth analysis of the World Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor Market from 2006 to 2016. The base year is 2009 and revenue forecasts have been provided by region, segments and subsegment. The focus is on plug-in and hardwired type TVSS.

The market share analysis has also been provided by product type. The study focuses on the key challenges, drivers and restraints for the World TVSS market. The study provides analysis of the major distribution channels used and provides detailed analysis on competitive scenario.

Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor (TVSS), also know as surge protection device (SPD), is used for protecting electrical circuits from surges and transients that occur due to lightning, switching a light on or off, short circuit in motor or within the devices themselves. It is observed that majority of transients in a given facility are generated within the facility. Transients generated could be of two types:

Internally generated
Externally generated

Internally generated transients are caused due to switching within the facility. By turning off a light, the current flow is abruptly interrupted causing the magnetic device to collapse. This generates a back electromotive force (voltage) to oppose the change in current, which creates a transient.

Externally generated transients are caused due to lightning, normal utility operation, unusual power line conditions, and noisy electrical surroundings. A lightning strike is capable of creating an electric-field intensity in the range of hundreds of thousands of volts. If a wire is exposed to an electric-field intensity, it can develop an induced transient voltage. If this transient appears across an unprotected power, telephone, data or coaxial line, the result can be the destruction of the system.
