The global telecommunications industry is a huge and rapidly growing market. From traditional fixed line telecommunications, through to the latest broadband wireless services, the telecommunications industry is at the forefront of the information technology world. It is estimated that global spending on telecommunications will reach nearly $5 trillion in 2013.It is also estimated that the top twelve countries spend nearly half of all telecoms spending.

of €1.19 trillion in the most recent financial year, almost €100 billion more than in last year's report. The top 10 operators accounted for more than €600 billion of the total. Net income for the top 100 came in at over €128 billion, €77 billion of which was attributable to the top 10.
