The Argentina processed food market is worth $1.2 billion, and has exhibited an estimated 10% growth rate in recent years. Hamburgers are the largest product category within the processed food market, accounting for a 37% market share, followed by prepared food, vegetables and fish, with 26%, 20% and 10% market shares respectively.
The largest companies in the Argentina frozen food market are Molinos, Unilever, Quickfood, McCain and Alimentos Modernos, which together account for nearly 80% of the market. Within the frozen vegetables market, Molinos, Unilever and Norte account for 82% market share. Molinos leads the market for frozen meat, pastas and empanadas, with its Matarazzo and Granja del Sol brand names. The market leader in the hamburger segment is Unilever's Good Mark brand. McCain and Alimentos Modernos are the largest companies in the frozen fries market, taking a combined 85% market share.
McCain's has an exclusivity agreement with McDonalds in Argentina, which has pushed McCain's turnover in Argentina to reach $37 million. Supermarkets account for around 90% of frozen food sales, with the most popular products being frozen hamburgers, french fries, pizzas, vegetables and fish.
The Argentina ice cream market is relatively small, at $630 million, due to low annual per capita consumption. The leader in the ice cream market is Nestle, with its Noel, Laponia and Frigor brands, followed by Unilever's La Montevideana and Milka brands.
