Syngenta and Buck Semillas announced today that they have entered into a joint venture agreement under which both parties will exchange genetics, utilising technology platforms and know-how to develop new wheat varieties.
By combining Buck Semilla's locally adapted genetics and Syngenta's industry-leading technology and global germplasm pool, the collaboration will deliver new varieties that will offer a higher yield and quality potential to Argentinean wheat farmers. The option to include these varieties in Syngenta´s integrated wheat offers will help farmers to realise this new genetic potential and to sustain Argentina's leading position in wheat production in South America.
Florian Wagner, Syngenta Head of Cereals for Latin America South, said, "This collaboration with Buck Semillas ensures that Argentina has access to the best wheat breeding technologies. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to offer to the wheat farmer in Argentina innovative, complete solutions, which are crucial to maintain local crop competitiveness in the future."
"Our strategy since the 1930s is breeding wheat varieties to consistently improve our offer to Argentinean farmers. In 2011 alone we have launched three new varieties that are the result of a previous material exchange agreement with Syngenta. We are thus very confident that this intensified collaboration will help us to accelerate the implementation of our strategy in the future," said Hilda Buck, President of Buck Semillas.
Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with more than 26,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to their purpose: Bringing plant potential to life. Through world-class science, global reach and commitment to customers they help to increase crop productivity, protect the environment and improve health and quality of life.
