IHS Inc is a leading global source of information and analysis and reported a 27% increase in total revenue during the fourth quarter 2011 compared to the same period in 2010. Revenue totalled US$371 million with net income for the fourth quarter 2011, totalling US$22.7 million. Although total revenue increased, net income compared to the fourth quarter decreased due to the discrete pensions items, without which net income would have increased to US$154.2 million.

Adjusted EBITDA for IHS totalled US$401 million, representing an increase of 19 percent over the prior year. The company regards 2011 results as a record year especially in tough macroeconomic conditions. IHS has invested heavily in the company's infrastructure to create scalable platforms in addition to strategic acquisitions both which are expected to improve profitability in the near future.

Acquisitions added 17% to revenue totals with organic growth during the fourth quarter accounting for a 9.4% increase in revenue. Interestingly, IHS revenues were sourced mainly from subscription based services, with 74% of total revenue sourced from subscription accounts. During the fourth quarter 2011, IHS increased revenues in the Americas to US$218.5 million representing a 23% increase. In the EMEA segment, revenues increased by 26% to total US$109.0 million. The APAC segment reported revenues of US$43.2 million or an increase of 49% during the fourth quarter 2011.
