Raytheon awarded two year contract by FAA

Raytheon Company, the technology and innovation leader specialising in defence, has been awarded a two-year contract extension to continue with its services to provide, Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), a safety system that provides satellite-based navigation in the continental United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico.

The contract extension will cover the period of performance through to September 24, 2013 and will be worth the value of $30.1 million.

Michael Prout, Vice President of Security and Transportation Systems for Raytheon's Network Centric Systems business said, "Raytheon has been the FAA's prime contractor for WAAS since the system was commissioned for operational use in the United States in 2003."

Life-cycle support and further services which would help with the improvement of service reliability and availability will be offered by Raytheon, along with an increased coverage area through system enhancements.

WAAS enables GPS to meet air navigation performance and safety requirements for en route, terminal, non-precision approach, and approach with vertical guidance operations.
