The global cardboard box manufacturing market has been forecast to bring in revenue of $452.9 billion in 2012, with the industry set to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8% through to 2015.

While cardboard packaging is one of the most widely used forms of packaging, the industry was unable to avoid the recession's adverse effects. Demand from food and beverage manufacturing industries will stabilise; however, increased offshoring will cut into overall domestic demand.

The cardboard box manufacturing market is witnessing the trend of technological advancement in the manufacturing process. Vendors are using highly advanced machinery such as inline automatic board and box machinery which makes the whole manufacturing process very smooth, easy, and fast. Complete automation is also improving profitability by reducing the amount of human resources required and increasing production.

The cardboard box manufacturing industry has a moderate degree of capital intensity. In 2012, for every $1.00 spent on wages, industry manufacturers spent an estimated $0.17 in capital improvements. Capital intensity has risen over the past five years. In 2007, for every $1.00 spent on wages, industry operators invested an estimated $0.16 in capital improvements. Although capital investment decreased during the recession, labour expenses declined at a faster rate, resulting in a corresponding increase in capital intensity.Cardboard Box Manufacturing
