Ovum finds that demand for bandwidth is leading to new parallel optic product development and increased competitiveness among suppliers. Suppliers are introducing active optical cable (AOC), launching quad SFP (QSFP) transceivers, and increasing the SNAP 12 module bandwidth. Finisar’s decision to offer an AOC and Emcore’s acquisition of Intel’s AOC increases competition within the leadership group. Partnerships and supply agreements have strengthened challenger positions, improving both their financial growth opportunities and attractiveness as acquisition targets.
